River Monitor for Hydropower & irrigation operators
An outside, satellite-only view of upstream reservoirs you don't control — useful for planning, not for real-time operations.
What you get
- Upstream reservoir area changes month by month
- Rainfall anomalies over each dam's catchment
- Low-confidence dry-season outlook, clearly labelled
- Data API and exports
What our accuracy tests actually show
- Our radar-measured reservoir area tracks independent SWOT satellite water heights well at some dams and poorly at others: correlation r = 0.85 (Xiaowan), 0.62 (Dachaoshan), 0.34 (Nuozhadu), 0.29 (Manwan), 0.03 (Jinghong).
- Our dry-season outlook is low confidence: held-out rank correlation 0.45 against the Chiang Saen gauge (error 0.48 vs 0.69 for a naive baseline).
- Catchment rainfall is only a weak guide to reservoir behaviour (r 0.10–0.34). SWOT itself reads 2–4 m low at low reservoir levels.
- We have no proven skill at forecasting downstream flows. Alerts are monthly, not real-time. Small dams are low confidence. Nile sites are not yet validated.
