River Monitor — 2-minute guided tour
For MIT Solve judges and funders. The tour walks through 8 public pages, about 15 seconds each (~2 minutes). A small panel on each page explains what you are looking at. You can pause, go back, or leave at any time.
No login needed. Nothing is changed or sent; the tour only opens public pages. Keyboard: → next, ← back, Esc to exit.
Evidence for MIT Solve judges: problem, results (including weak ones) and roadmap.
Stops
- What River Monitor does — Independent satellite monitoring of Mekong dams: River Monitor measures reservoir water area from radar and pairs it with public river-gauge data, with sources cited on every page.
- Low-flow monitor — Daily public MRC gauge levels compared with each station's own history. Percentiles show how unusual today is. Note the data-freshness banner at the top.
- Upstream dams — Monthly reservoir water area for each dam from our own Sentinel-1 radar processing, with low-confidence sites flagged. Water area is a signal, not storage volume.
- Dry-season outlook — An experimental view of which dry-season ranges are plausible given where gauges sit in their history today. It says plainly that it is not a forecast.
- Impact & honest validation — Who the river supports (Mekong River Commission figures, linked), what we cover, and our backtest results, including the weak ones.
- Evidence — Methods, accuracy and limits: how our radar water area agrees (or does not) with NASA/CNES SWOT water height, graded strong, moderate or weak.
- Partners & field teams — Pilot and field-partner access: a phone form for gauge readings, flood marks and photos that works offline. Every reading is reviewed, and photo location data is removed.
- Open data & licences — Every dataset we use, its licence and its refresh schedule. Thanks for taking the tour.
