Meeting Mekong communities in 2027
G'day, I'm Luke Fairweather, the founder of River Monitor. In early 2027 I'm planning self-funded trips to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.
I'd love to sit down with river communities and local partners, hear what matters to you, and help you get set up with River Monitor. These trips are paid for by me, not by the communities we meet. Exact dates aren't being published here.
The plan includes working with a local volunteer translator, so we can take the time to listen and understand each other.
A wider perspective
Connected by the river
From the uplands to the delta, water links communities across borders. These historical views are context for our work, not photographs of our planned visits or proof of a local partnership.

What we can work on together
- Getting started with River Monitor: finding the dam, rainfall and river information that's useful for your community, and explaining what the estimates can and can't tell us.
- Free community weather stations: helping communities get set up with a station they keep. You own your readings. Sharing them with River Monitor is optional, and stays off unless you choose to opt in.
- Photo check-ins: showing how to share a water-level photo and local reading, with your consent. Check-ins are kept private until reviewed, and photo metadata is stripped.
This is a chance to learn together, not a promise that equipment or a visit is available for every expression of interest. There are no formal local partnerships being claimed here.
River Monitor is a prototype, not an official flood warning service. Always follow advice from local authorities.
Interested in meeting up?
If you're part of a river community, local organisation, research group or community service, leave a note about where you are and what would be useful. It's fine if you're just starting the conversation.
